Farmers and agronomists are on the lookout for crop pests.
Tony Lenz with Stine Seed Company says he’s been scouting for corn rootworm.
“We’ve been digging up corn plants, so much time is being spent looking at the corn plant above ground but we really want to start at this time looking underground. So we dig up corn plants, we like to do the washing of the roots. Put them in a bucket, we kind of use that float test to look at rootworms.”
In soybeans, he says he’s looking for different beetles that could be out there.
