An agronomist with Channel Seed says corn and soybeans continue to develop ahead of schedule.
Whitney Monin says growing degree units (GDUs) in southern Indiana are running about 300 ahead of the 10-15-year average.
“This heat accumulation has really changed the game in several ways,” she says. “It’s really allowed our corn and soybeans to emerge very evenly and we have excellent stands.”
But, she tells Brownfield the heat has also been the ideal breeding ground for crop diseases.
