The USDA says production of most dairy products during September slowed except for skim milk powder.
Total cheese production was more than one billion pounds, up more than three percent from last year, but down two percent from last month. By type, Italian cheese was up more than four percent from last year and American cheese production was up nearly four percent.
Butter production was slightly lower than last year at 134 million pounds.
