The USDA says production of most dairy products during April was lower than last year and last month. Total cheese production was slightly above one billion pounds, down 0.2 percent from last year but 3.6 percent above March. Italian cheese production was up on the year while American cheese was lower. Butter production was down nearly five percent from last year and four percent from last month. Nonfat dry milk was down 2.6 percent from 2018 and skim milk powder was down nine percent.
