Time is running out for Illinois farmers to apply for funding aimed at strengthening the state’s food supply chain.
Raghela Scavuzzo, executive director of the Illinois Specialty Growers Association says the 6.3 million dollars from the Illinois Resilient Food System Infrastructure program is a unique opportunity…
“This is one of the very few grants you’re going to see where people can actually buy cold storage and other capacity components.” She says, “So there’s equipment as well as capacity building beyond that, which is not something we often see in grant programs.”
The grants offer small and mid-size farms better access to value added opportunities, helping to increase the state’s local food processing and distribution network. It also offers more local food opportunities for Illinois consumers.
