An agronomist who covers Missouri and southern Iowa has concerns about how drought conditions could complicate harvest.
Brandon Nystrom with AgriGold says plants are less efficient when temperatures are high and moisture is limited.
“And when they’re not as efficient, that can create some stress on things like stalk integrity as well as shank development.”
The ear shank is comprised of nodes and internodes just like the main stalk, and typically develops during pollination.
