Drought conditions expand across Midwest

Drought conditions have expanded in the Midwest.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 85% of Missouri is in some form of drought. Twenty-eight northern counties are experiencing the most severe conditions.

Severe conditions are also expanding into the southern half of Iowa. Parts of Appanoose, Davis and Van Buren Counties are in severe drought with abnormally dry conditions reaching as far north as Clinton County.

Illinois has continued to avoid severe conditions this week, but more than 20% of the state, mainly in the western third is dealing with abnormal to moderately dry weather.
