The USDA will release $500 Million dollars for drought recovery through the Commodity Credit Corporation.
The funds will also encourage the adoption of “water smart” management practices.
Ag Secretary Vilsack says the drought has dried up forages and been very painful for many livestock producers.
“Livestock producers in the west have borne the brunt of this drought and, sadly, many are now faced with the possibility of having to liquidate their herds after spending a lifetime of building them up.”
The funds are part of a $3-Billion ag investment package announced by Vilsack this week.
