Out west, a substantial surge of cold air will reach the Northwest, starting on Tuesday, and quickly expand to cover nearly all areas from the Mississippi Valley westward by Friday.
Meanwhile, a winter-like storm will develop across central sections of the Rockies and Plains by mid-week and drift northeastward, reaching the upper Great Lakes region on Friday.
Significant snow can be expected from the central Rockies to the northern Plains and far upper Midwest, while showers and thunderstorms will develop late in the week from the Midwest to the southeastern Plains, along the storm’s trailing cold front.
