Legislation in the U.S. House that would address Proposition 12 is getting some pushback by a group of Republicans.
In a letter to House Ag Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson, the lawmakers said the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act should not be included in the next farm bill.
Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson of Iowa co-sponsors the EATS Act and says, “Look, I’ve been having conversations with people on both sides of the aisle to find a compromise language that we think will protect everybody.”
California’s Proposition 12 law went into full effect in January and it bans sales of pork, veal, and eggs from animals whose confinement does not meet minimum space requirements.
