A livestock economist says he’s watching placements in today’s Cattle on Feed numbers from the USDA.
University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says recent months have been running above year-ago levels. “I’m curious whether we break that trend of the last couple of months and start talking about lower placements,” he says. “I think a lot of that just has to do with dry weather and what’s been maybe a move for a period of time of calves in the feedyard sooner than would be the case.”
He tells Brownfield that might suggest, at some point, we’ll be back on the other side and talk about lower placements relative to previous year again.
