Ongoing drought conditions in some of the country’s largest cattle producing areas are forcing some producers to sell off cattle early.
Texas A&M livestock economist David Anderson says in the short term it all comes down to the bottom line. “From an economic standpoint – how long do you keep some of those cows that maybe you might want to move earlier on simply because your costs are rising and the price you’re going to get for those cows is declining,” he says.
