Expert says short-term trade aid helps farmers, but doesn’t fix trade concerns

An Illinois ag economics professor says the Trump administration’s trade aid payments to farmers will help many producers at a time of low prices and tight margins.  Jonathan Coppess says, “This cash payment’s probably going to make the difference between a profit or loss situation so it will help in the short term at the bottom line of the farmer that received these payments.”

But, Coppess tells Brownfield he doesn’t understand the USDA’s very low payment of about a penny a bushel for corn under the Market Facilitation Program.
