The 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law in December but
implementation on the bill continues.
Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown says farmers need the certainty
that the programs provide, especially after the 2019 planting season.
“We’ve seen the uncertainty in commodity markets and the wet spring and summer that the safety net for farmers is more important than it’s ever been,” he says. “We emphasize that we want the USDA to implement the farm bill in terms of the safety net so farmers know what they can count on.”
He says the senate agriculture committee has had hearings
with the USDA about implementation progress…
“To hear from them what they’re doing on crop insurance and what they’re doing on the national water quality initiative, and others,” he says.
