Farm Credit Council says passing a new farm bill is crucial

The senior vice president of government affairs for the Farm Credit Council says it’s important a new farm bill get passed in 2024.

Jenny Mesirow says farmers need another five years of a safety net for when times get challenging.

“We want to ensure there’s a strong crop insurance program,” she says. “We think there are some flexibilities we can work on within the Farm Service Agency guaranteed lending programs that would help us serve young, beginning and small producers a little bit better by partnering with USDA and those programs.”

She says lawmakers are working as quickly as they can to advance the legislation.
