Just over one-fourth of farmers surveyed have made changes in their operation because of rising energy prices, according to the latest Ag Economy Barometer.
Jim Mintert, the director of the Purdue University Center for Commercial Agriculture, says farmer responses varied when asked what changes they made.
“The number one choice was reduced tillage. The number two choice was reduced nitrogen rates and/or changed application timing of nitrogen. That was chosen by 24 percent of the people in the survey,” he says.
