Farmers eager to see what’s in next farm bill

The vice president of the American Soybean Association says it’s still unclear if lawmakers will find more money to boost reference prices.

Josh Gackle from North Dakota says it’s a much-needed update for the Ag Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs in the farm bill, because…

“During the trade war, back during the tariff situation when we saw a significant drop in commodity prices, even that drop didn’t trigger ARC or PLC so farmers relied on ad-hoc programs, but that’s not predictable.”

Gackle says making updates to the commodity title helps keep farm programs relevant, but maintaining existing programs, like crop insurance and trade promotion, will also be beneficial to farmers.
