Farmers reminded of dangers posed by anhydrous ammonia

Farmers applying fall fertilizer are reminded of the dangers of anhydrous ammonia.

Jane Boerboom with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture says safety equipment including goggles and gloves are necessary.

“And never wear contact lenses in your eyes. If exposed to anhydrous ammonia (it) pulls the moisture from your skin and from your eyes and from any parts of your body, and it burns your skin.”

She warns farmers never to assume an anhydrous ammonia line is empty.
