The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the import of genetically engineered salmon eggs, but the decision is getting pushback from Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski.
A report from Agri-Pulse says the approval allows the AquaBounty Technologies plant in Indiana to raise the fish from eggs imported from Canada. USDA’s final GE labeling rule, which went into effect February 21, made the FDA announcement possible. Murkowski says those labeling guidelines aren’t clear enough and will confuse consumers.
