FDA moves forward on milk labeling

The FDA has opened public comment on labeling rules for imitation dairy products.

Commissioner Scott Gottlieb says the agency is concerned the labeling of some plant-based products is misleading to consumers and wants to better understand consumers’ expectations and nutritional knowledge of dairy products and alternatives.

The National Milk Producers Federation welcomed the announcement saying the agency is finally addressing concerns that plant-based products are inappropriately marketed to consumers.
