A new economic agreement signed this week between Michigan and Ontario will help expand ag exports.
Jamie Zmitko-Somers with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development tells Brownfield Canada is the state’s largest trading partner for all products including food and agriculture.
“Animal feed is a top export going into the Canadian market,” she says. “We also send a lot of corn and soybeans into the market as well, a lot of wood products, and then some of those processed food products.”
The new strategic investment and procurement memorandum of understanding is meant to support new initiatives between Michigan and Ontario. Zmitko-Somers says it could mean more partnerships like what Michigan Milk Producers Association and Canadian Dairy Distillery are doing.
