A new report from USDA’s Economic Research Service says food insecurity declined slightly last year.
Research economist Alisha Coleman-Jensen says food insecurity dropped by a half of a percent in 2017, the sixth straight year of declines. “Eleven-point-eight percent of households were food insecure, households that had difficulty putting enough food on the table for all their members at sometime during the year. This is primarily due to a lack of economic resources for food.”
She says food insecurity was higher in metropolitan and rural areas, and lower in suburban areas.
