October 2023 cheese and butter production were mixed compared to October 2022. That was followed a slight year-to-year decrease in monthly milk production as processors eye refilling store shelves after the holidays.
The USDA says October cheese production was 1.194 billion pounds, 0.8% more than last year, with gains in Italian and Hispanic type cheeses canceling out losses in American type cheeses.
Butter production was 161 million pounds, 0.9% lower than a year ago.
