Friday is the deadline for farmers to apply for a Marketing Assistance Loan. Joe Martin, Farm Service Agency director in Minnesota, says the program covers most commodity crops. “These are nine month loans to infuse some cash flow into your operation, keep your grain stored and give you an opportunity to market for another nine months.” He tells Brownfield loan rates are around $1.80 for corn, $4.80 for soybeans, and $3.00 to $3.50 for wheat. “So if you find yourself sitting on stored grain that you haven’t marketed and you’re short on cash, the Market Assistance Loan is a good option.” Again, producers of eligible 2018 crops have until Friday to apply for a marketing assistance loan through their local FSA office.
