The Administrator of the Farm Service Agency says extending the signup period for the Dairy Margin Coverage program was the right thing to do. Zach Ducheneaux tells Brownfield the original December 9th deadline was moved to January 31st. “When taking a look at the timing of the application and the data that we use to determine payments, and the volatility, especially in the dairy market but in all of our ag markets, we thought it was best to extend that so that producers have a chance to come in and take advantage of this critical tool.”
USDA is expecting lower milk prices, creating DMC payments to trigger in the first eight months of the new year, and Ducheneaux wants to make sure producers can take advantage of the program.
