FSA says there are lessons learned after Lenawee County audit

Every farmer enrolled in the USDA’s Conservation Reserve Program in one Michigan county was audited in 2016.  Since then, feelings toward the Farm Service Agency have been heated.

More than 1,400 contracts were reviewed by FSA after administrative errors sparked an audit in Lenawee County.  As a result, some land farmers who had enrolled in conservation programs was rejected and payments had to be returned.

At the same time, the Trump administration was still working to finalize leadership for USDA agencies which left many farmers’ questions unanswered.
