The Indiana General Assembly passed legislation to secure funding for the restoration of the Kankakee and Yellow Rivers.
Justin Schneider with Indiana Farm Bureau says addressing the rivers has been a priority for the organization. The Kankakee and Yellow rivers flooded in February 2018 and caused damage to homes, roads, and farms.
“There was a real need for change of structure and for financial support,” he says. “The cost of work based on preliminary plans is $120 million to fix everything that needs to be done between fixing the banks of the rivers, removing obstructions, and then working on flood storage and water retention in the basin,” he says.
