A southwest Missouri man has shattered the state record for heaviest pumpkin, for the fifth time. Richard Bottorf of Republic, Missouri grew one this year that was just two pounds shy of 18-hundred pounds.  He says he buys good pumpkin seeds at auction and uses good fertilizer.

“Those good genetics can cost anywhere

from $100 to several hundred dollars for good genetic seeds that will have the

ability to produce a large pumpkin.
