A senior risk management consultant with Nationwide is asking farmers to reconsider entering grain bins.
“Within four seconds, you can be buried up to your neck and you cannot move,” Paul Stevenson said.
Stevenson tells Brownfield grain bins can pose life-threatening dangers to farmers and workers if proper safety procedures aren’t followed. “We wouldn’t have to rescue anybody, and we wouldn’t have to hear about somebody dying in a grain structure if they would not go in it in the first place.”
He says Nationwide’s Grain Bin Safety campaign helps supply fire departments across rural America with the specialized rescue training and equipment needed to respond to entrapments.
