Members of the Congressional and Senate Chicken Caucuses have requested the USDA extend the implementation period for its latest Packers and Stockyards Act rule.
The Transparency in Poultry Grower Contracting and Tournaments rule includes a 75-day compliance period to amend contracts to bring them into compliance. The groups argue 75 days isn’t enough time to amend tens of thousands of contracts. They would like USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service to extend the implementation date of the rule no less than 180 after its official publication in the Federal Register, which was November 28, 2023.
