A biofuels group has expressed frustration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) proposed fuel-economy standards.
Chris Bliley, senior vice president of regulatory affairs with Growth Energy, says the agency didn’t consider biofuels when setting its latest Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards. “Higher biofuel blends, high octane mid-level blends such as E30, have tremendous benefits and automakers can really take advantage of these high-octane fuels to maximize efficiency of their engines.”
NHTSA’s proposal sets fuel efficiency standards for heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans for model years 2030-2035 and passenger cars and light trucks for model years 2027-2032.
