An agronomist says the variability in crop conditions will
affect the quality of corn silage.
“I think this is going to be a year, from talking with growers that they’ll like to see in the rearview mirror.”
Mycogen Seeds agronomist Jon Erickson tells Brownfield good quality corn silage comes down to whole-plant moisture content. “Depending on the storage structure, it’s going to be anywhere from 65 to 70 percent moisture.”
He says that includes harvesting late-planted corn at the correct moisture even though it could have less energy content.
