An agronomist says he’s concerned areas that received heavy rains on freshly planted fields could face some emergence issues.
Ryan Gentle, Illinois agronomy manager with Wyffels Hybrids, says he’s watching corn acres that were planted over Mother’s Day weekend.
“So there’s a big potential for crusting.” He says, “If we keep getting rain every three or four days, it probably won’t be an issue, but if we turn off 80° with sun and wind like we had at the end of last week, we could have some problems.”
He tells Brownfield scouting this week is key.
