Highly pathogenic avian influenza infections have been detected in Iowa for the first time since March and State Ag Secretary Mike Naig says it didn’t come as a surprise.
“When we started to see South Dakota and Minnesota with positive (cases) as we were beginning this fall and winter migration, we suspected that we might be next. And sure enough, we are.”
Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship confirmed 50,000 turkeys were recently depopulated at a commercial site in Buena Vista County due to a confirmation of the virus.
