Hog futures close mostly higher on demand optimism

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, live cattle closed mixed on spread trade, profit-taking, and lower wholesale values.  Feeder cattle closed mixed on the same factors.  October live cattle closed $.27 higher at $102.12 and December live cattle closed $.35 lower at $107.42.  October feeder cattle closed $.40 higher at $141.65 and November closed $.47 higher at $140.20. 

Direct cash cattle trade activity is limited.  There have been a few asking prices floated around $104 to $105 live in the South and $170 dressed in the North.
