Hog sector braces for Florence’s impact

The East Coast is bracing for Hurricane Florence and its landfall could send ripple effects throughout the ag sector.

John Heinberg with Stewart-Peterson says the biggest impact will likely be seen in the hog markets.  North Carolina accounts for more than 12 percent of the nation’s hog production and is also home to the largest US hog processing facility.  “That’s a 32,500 head slaughter capacity on a daily basis that’s not going to be moving,” he says.
