Hot, increasingly humid weather to expand across the Heartland; some relief next week

A late-season heat wave across the Plains and Midwest will persist through the weekend and into early next week, with temperatures expected to approach or reach 100°F as far north as Minnesota and the Dakotas.  Hot weather will also prevail in much of the southern and eastern U.S.

By next Tuesday, however, cooler air will arrive across the northern Plains.  In contrast, showery Western weather will linger through the weekend, while precipitation should overspread the northern Plains early next week.
