During the next couple of days, cooler, drier air will briefly establish itself across much of the U.S. In contrast, heat on the northern High Plains will expand over the weekend, and further intensify from California to the northern Rockies. In the Four Corners States, however, the arrival of monsoon-related moisture, cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms will help to suppress temperatures. Early next week, hot and increasingly more humid weather will also spread eastward across the northern half of the nation, while cloudy, showery weather will cover much of the South.
