The House Farm Bill went down in flames May 18, a fire lit not so much by liberal Democrat opposition to federal food stamp changes, but ignited by the far right wing of the controlling GOP, a move designed as much to demonstrate there’s a new gang in charge as it was to force the chamber to pay attention to its version of immigration reform.
