House passes coronavirus relief package, sends bill to senate

The House passed a coronavirus relief

package Saturday on a 363-40 vote.

The legislation, backed by President

Trump, would help address food needs, provide paid sick leave for impacted

workers, and provide free testing for the coronavirus.

The bill allows states to request approval

from the Secretary of Agriculture to provide emergency assistance for

households participating in the supplemental nutrition assistance program equal

to their maximum monthly allotment.

The bill also provides $400 million to

assist local food banks and $250 million for the senior nutrition program.
