Iowa has its first confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza since December.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says HPAI was recently detected in a flock of commercial layer chickens in Sioux (like sue) County. The number of affected birds was not disclosed.
It’s the first case of the virus in 2024 and State Ag Secretary Mike Naig says poultry producers and dairy farmers should bolster their biosecurity practices to protect their flocks and herds.
