HPAI detected in Nebraska for the first time since 2015

Avian influenza had been detected in a wild goose in Nebraska for the first time since 2015.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic H5N1 in (HPAI) the animal in Lancaster County.

State Veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley says HPAI hasn’t been found in a backyard or commercial poultry flock yet, but this indicates that the disease could spread.
