IDALS: 4.2 million chickens impacted by HPAI in Sioux County

Officials have confirmed a recent detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Sioux County, Iowa impacted 4.2 million commercial egg-laying chickens.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship tells Brownfield all birds in the flock will be depopulated.

Kevin Stiles, executive director of the North Central Poultry Association, says it’s the first confirmed case of HPAI in the state this year. “We are saddened,” he said. “Saddened for the farmers that are having to deal with this.
