The director of government relations and strategy at the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) says he’s disappointed in several aspects of the new 53.1-billion-dollar state budget.

“We’re also concerned to see a four million plus dollar cut to Soil and Water Conservation districts across the state,” he says.
Larson says he’s concerned farmers won’t have the access they need to conservation experts.
“These times when more conservation programs are being put out there, and more focus is on it,” he says, “having less resources and folks to work with locally under soil and water conservation districts, and less program opportunities, is certainly not the direction we want to see it go.”
Larson says the increase to the “Fall Covers for Spring Savings” program, which gives farmers that plant cover crops a discount on the next year’s crop insurance, was a minor win.
