Illinois ag economist Todd Hubbs says U.S. soybean planting should be past the halfway mark. “I think we could see it in the 55 to 65 percent range total.” Last Monday’s USDA Crop Progress report listed soybean planting at 39 percent nationally. Hubbs tells Brownfield it’ll be interesting to see how many farmers stayed with corn the past seven days. “And how many switched to soybean acres. I know there was a lot of talk about people going ahead and planting corn even though it’s past the prevent plant date.” He calls that a risky proposition.
