Illinois weed scientists find new resistance in Waterhemp

Illinois weed scientists have discovered Waterhemp resistance to Group 15 herbicides, making it resistant to a total of six modes of action.

“This represents the first instance of resistance to Group 15 herbicides in a dicot weed species.”

Aaron Hager with the University of Illinois tells Brownfield his graduate student, Seth Strom found that Waterhemp weeds in their test plots are able to metabolize Group 15 herbicides such as Dual Magnum, Harness, Outlook, and Zidua just like the corn plants.
