Indiana crops looking for rain ahead of harvest

Farmers across Indiana could use some rainfall to help crops get across the finish line.  According to the USDA’s latest crop progress report 4% of Indiana’s corn crops is mature and 51% is dented with 66% of the crop rated good to excellent.

Ben Kron farms in southwest Indiana. “The corn at least is really just a little bit past half milk line heading down to about 1/4 left of milk line and so we still have grain fill yet going on and a couple of rains still wouldn’t hurt.”

Soybeans are rated 66% good to excellent with 6% of the crop dropping leaves.  Kron says most of his beans still have several weeks before they’re ready.
