Indiana winter wheat rating up on month

Indiana had an unseasonably warm February.

The USDA says statewide temperatures were more than eight degrees warmer than average, even with some wide swings, while precipitation was lower than usual, pulling soil moisture levels down with spring planting not that far off.

Despite those warm, dry conditions, Indiana’s winter wheat rating improved to 70% good to excellent, an increase of 4% on the month.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
