An official with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says getting a trade deal with Japan has to be a priority.
Kent Bacus tells Brownfield Japan is a $2-billion market for US beef, but because of the tariff disadvantage Japanese importers are starting to look elsewhere to meet their beef needs. “All of those competitors who have a tariff rate advantage over us, because they have a trade agreement with Japan, we’ve seen them start to really pick up in their sales,” he says.
