A new online hub for conversations about gene-editing in
agriculture has been launched by the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) and
BIO, the largest trade association of biotech companies.
Bernice Slutsky with the ASTA tells Brownfield there’s a lot to talk about on the INNOVATURE site, “Applications that have to do with our food, our environment and our well being.”
Gene editing can be used on all crops, says Slutsky, “And,
it’s also a tool that can be used by large companies, small companies – so it’s
really, it has wide applications and benefits.”
Gene editing is being studied by universities and companies for use in both field crops and vegetables, “Looking at drought tolerance, for example.
